The Chair of the Defence Select Committee have written to the to the Minister for Defence Procurement telling him to revisit the issue of GE Power Conversion in Rugby. They realise the importance of the need to maintain the national sovereign capability of the nation to be able to build and maintain equipment for the Royal Navy here in the UK.
The Select Committee have told the Minister he must do more to make GE abide by the undertakings it gave to always maintain a presence in the UK when it acquired Converteam and signed a Deed Poll to affirm this undertaking.
With the commitment shown by the Defence Select Committee we are confident that they will help to secure the defence of the realm and freedom of action required by our forces by having strategic defence equipment for the forces built in the U.K.
We thank them for the vision they show, something that seems to be lacking in some Ministerial offices.
